Welcome to Sherrill Diaries, East Hampton

Writings on early America from a coastal town

My mother, Sherrill Foster, was East Hampton’s town historian and “Around the Green” columnist for the East Hampton Independent. I miss her dearly — her passion, curiosity, her love of revealing the past.

Going through her papers I’ve found treasure: unpublished writings, research notes, untold stories. I wanted a place to keep them alive.

So I created this website, Sherrill Diaries, East Hampton, where I will share her writings, as well as family stories passed down about the early Parsons and Sherrills, and life on the East End. Some are personal, some historical, and most somewhere in between.

And yes, there are diaries!
